| Read Numbers 13
& 14…
At the Lord’s command, Moses selected one man from
each tribe to form a spying party to survey the
land of Canaan. Forty days later they returned.
They all saw the same thing, but their opinion was
divided. The majority said, “The people are too
strong!”, and the minority opinion was, “We shall
overcome!”
The Israelites heard with the spies’ report,”The
land is good; it flows with milk and honey; it also
overflows with fortified cities and giants”. There
could only be one response – “Let’s go!” However,
in which direction? Joshua and Caleb (the minority
reporters), responding by faith, said, “Let’s go
forward!” The majority said, “Let’s go back to Egypt!”
The majority opinion prevailed and Israel wandered
in the wilderness for 40 years.
As people and as a congregation, we are often faced
with the same kind of decision – “In which direction
shall we go?” May we always have the faith to go
forward…confident of God’s guidance, direction and
power!
